Dear friends and supporters of Pro Coro Canada Five years ago, on a sunny May morning, I joined the Edmonton choral community for the first time in the annual Run for Music. Back then, this event was held at the Louise McKinney Riverfront Park, just below the Shaw Conference Centre. I had signed up to run 5 kilometres, starting basically from scratch some weeks earlier. My preparation runs never quite ended up being the entire distance needed, but I was counting on the excitement of the moment and the energy of all the other participants to make it to the final line. It was a fantastic morning, joining the runner and walkers in the river valley, coming out of the gate to the sound of the Swiss cow-bells, being cheered on by many musicians along the path and the grand finale - a pancake breakfast. I was right, the energy of the morning, the friendly, cheering faces of all the participants and the sense of doing something good for the community AND myself, helped me finish the run in a decent time of about 42 minutes. And that was it for the year … In 2016, I decided to start earlier with my training, and I ran in the mornings around 630AM. I love that early time in Spring. The motivation was to shave some time off my previous year. And knowing the route, I paced myself well and gained almost 10 minutes on my previous time. And that year, I kept at it through the summer, all the way to a 10 kilometre in 1 hour 35 minutes. Well, the story continues with more running every year, even through the winter to minus 20, with longer distances, and shorter times, in short: Run for Music, the annual fundraiser by Choir Alberta got me into running 5 years ago. Last year, as team captain of Pro Coro Canada, I finished the 10K in 54 minutes, placing second. I know, it’s not a competition. But this initiative that supports the financial health of our provincial choral Organization and of Pro Coro Canada has also shaped my physical health - and I am very grateful. I invite you to support Run for Music 2020. Please click on the link below. with my best wishes, Michael Zaugg
